Sunday 21st February

February 21st, 2010

Well, the weather is doing it’s best to keep us away from the field at the moment :(  Last week the 3 musketeers spent the flying session hiding from the rain and munching on bacon sandwiches ( Yummy :D )

This week it was at least dry enough in the air to fly the helicopters (underfoot was a completely different story :(  )

Only Daren and I where brave/stupid enough to venture out today but actually it was worth it because although the sky was quite grey, the wind was light which made it feel a lot warmer than previous weeks.

I was keen to get out to test fly my Raptor 90, which following a recent major overhaul has been giving me problems with tuning. Parts where borrowed, adapted and fitted and after some tuning the engine was much better.

By the second flight I was starting to relax a little – Too soon! I came down low inverted for Daren to take a photo or two. After a little hover I started an inverted piro. When I let go of the stick the heli didn’t stop spinning :o I punched the negative pitch and managed to get the heli high enough to flip it over and auto it – I couldn’t believe that I got away with it – on the skids in the crop, but safe :)

The cause – A broken tail control pushrod – One of the few parts not replaced in the overhaul! – Never mind, all’s well that end’s well.

Daren flew his Raptor 90 and Synergy and I finished off with a flight on my Trex 600. Sadly nearly as soon as I landed it started to rain and didn’t stop :( Perhaps it will be better next week. . . .
